We have multiple full-time Technical Officer – Field roles based at our Roseworthy facility in South Australia, working as part of a practical, fast-moving team that supports field research for our breeding programs.
This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating equipment, solving problems and contributing to real outcomes for Australian agriculture.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Getting involved in seeding, spraying and harvest activities using modern trial equipment.
- Handling, cleaning, packing and organising samples for field experiments.
- Supporting the setup, delivery and monitoring of field experiments across the season.
- Working with seasonal casual staff to complete routine field operations safely and productively.
- Taking part in team development activities, field days and centre activities where appropriate.
- Contributing to team meetings and day-to-day planning to keep field operations running smoothly.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Hold an Australian driver's licence
- Willingness to obtain a heavy vehicle licence in the future.
- Willingness to obtain an Australian Chemical Users Permit.
- An interest in agriculture, machinery and practical field work.
- Basic mechanical and hands-on skills, or a willingness to learn.
- Willingness to obtain a forklift licence.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to work during busy seasonal periods when field work increases.
- Availability required for regional travel during seasonal peak periods.
- A basic understanding or interest in Australian farming and cropping practices.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills and take on responsibility.
- Ability to work well as part of a team and follow workplace, safety and research procedures.
- A genuine interest in developing a long-term career in agricultural research.
These roles would be suitable for year 12 school leavers (or soon to be - we can wait!) with on farm practical experience, or agricultural farm experienced mature candidates looking for a career change.
To be eligible for these positions, applicants must hold valid Australian work rights.
The successful applicants will be willing to reside in the Roseworthy–Adelaide region, with a commitment to relocate if required.
