About the role
Join us as a Technical Officer - Glasshouse and you will be located at our world class Southern Crop Breeding Centre located in Roseworthy, South Australia. This state-of-the-art development showcases the very best in plant breeding facilities and technology.
We are looking for hardworking and personable applicants with the ability to work well as part of a team. You will need to be able to follow instruction and protocols and be comfortable to ask questions when you do not understand or need more information. Showing initiative is valued, as are excellent communication skills, eye for detail and critical thinking skills. An individual with aptitude and a willingness to learn, are personal skills that are highly sought after.
Key Responsibilities
- Working with several broad-acre crop species within a high-tech glasshouse and controlled environment facility.
- Assist with planting, cross pollination and harvest of cross-hybridisation programmes.
- Leaf tissue sampling for DNA extraction and analysis
- Plant health and nutrition management, including applying pesticides and fertilisers.
- Maintaining clean and tidy facilities for optimum plant health and presentable for visitors.
